Dream European Destinations for Fall 2018
Fall is one of our favourite seasons for travelling to Europe because there is something that appeals to each of the five senses. The weather is mellow, the leaves change into gorgeous warm colours and there is fantastic seasonal comfort food to be eaten around the continent.
Here are some classic destinations that are even better in autumn.
Berlin
The capital of Germany carries with it an air of “coolness” that is not replicated anywhere else in the world. There is so much to do in Berlin you’ll have no trouble filling up your itinerary.
You can really see the effect that history has had on the city not only in museums, but on the city’s streets themselves. History buffs can witness real pieces of the past at sites like the East Side Gallery and Checkpoint Charlie.
In addition to this, you can spend hours shopping at Kaufhaus des Westens (or as it is known to the locals, KaDeWe) the second biggest department store in Europe. KaDeWe boasts a 1000-seat restaurant on the top floor with a winter garden and stunning views of the city.
If you’re looking to spend time outdoors, we recommend visiting Tiergarten, one of the many popular parks around Berlin. You’ll likely forget that you’re in a metropolis when strolling through these tree-lined trails. Tiergarten is also home to the most-visited zoo in Europe where you can see famous animals like Knut, the polar bear and Bao Bao, the panda.
And would it even be possible to talk about Berlin without mentioning the city’s vibrant nightlife? Berlin is home to some of the best nightclubs on earth. For all the party animals out there, the clubs are typically open from Friday night until Monday morning. Don’t worry, you can sleep once you’re back home!
Paris
Paris is a universal dream destination for a reason. It is home to some of the most iconic sights in the world. From the Louvre, to the Champs-Elysee, to the Eiffel Tower. to the Notre Dame Cathedral – there is something for everyone.
After taking in these architectural wonders, adventurous foodies can explore their culinary palettes by trying frog legs or escargot. However, if you’d rather stick to what you know, you can chow down on a variety of top-notch baked goods and sweet treats like baguettes, croissants and macarons.
On top of everything else, the intimate and romantic atmosphere in the city is unmatched, especially in the fall. Nothing says, “I love you” like a cozy sunset stroll by the River Seine, trust us.
Madrid
This Spanish capital is arguably the liveliest city in Europe. It combines modern infrastructure with historic neighborhoods, meaning you’re able to enjoy luxurious amenities while experiencing charm from as far back as the Middle Ages.
In Madrid, there are countless museums, palaces, restaurants, markets and parks where you can spend your time. For entertainment, snag a pair of tickets to a Real Madrid match at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium or watch dancers move their feet while musicians strum Spanish guitars at one of the many Flamenco Theatres around the city.
Madrid is a dream destination for travelers with a zest for life.
Santorini
The beautiful Greek island of Santorini is a gorgeous getaway. It is surrounded by the clear, blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Explore the depths of sea by scuba diving and maybe even catch a glimpse of a reef. Admire all the uniquely Greek architecture by hiking up the Nea Kameni volcano then lounge in a hammock at one of the sunning red, white or black sand beaches. Then finally uncork and unwind at one of the island’s many expansive vineyards. For an autumn getaway with views you’ll never forget, make Santorini your next destination.
